How to Maintain LED Therapy Devices for Long-Term Performance
Understanding LED Degradation
LEDs don’t burn out suddenly like incandescent bulbs. They degrade gradually:

What We Learned
1. The 20% output loss was normal. We thought the panels were defective. The manufacturer confirmed: 20% loss after 18 months is normal for budget LEDs. Quality LEDs lose less.
2. The temperature monitoring helped. We added temperature sensors to our panels. When operating temp exceeds 45°C, we add cooling. This extends LED life.
3. The annual service caught problems early. During annual service, the technician found a failing fan. Replaced it for $50. Without service, the fan would have failed completely, potentially damaging LEDs.
4. The light meter was worth the investment. We bought a $200 light meter. Now we measure output annually. When output drops below 80% of baseline, we consider replacement or repair.
5. The maintenance log was evidence. We documented all maintenance. When discussing warranty claims, the log showed we maintained the equipment properly. Supplier honored the warranty.
For LED therapy clinics, maintenance extends device life and maintains treatment effectiveness. Set up a maintenance schedule and stick to it. The cost is low compared to early replacement.
