What We Learned

1. The shipping cost was a shock. We ordered $5,000 worth of panels. Shipping was $1,200. Should have factored it in. Now we always include shipping in the total cost calculation.

2. The customs delay cost us. Three weeks of delay meant 3 weeks without inventory. For a busy clinic, that’s lost revenue. Now we order well ahead.

3. The duty rate was negotiable. We talked to a customs broker. Our LED panels qualified for a lower duty rate under a different HS code. Savings: $800 on our first large order.

4. The freight forwarder was cheaper. We switched from direct shipping to a freight forwarder. Cost dropped 30%. The forwarder handled customs too.

5. The sample shipment taught us. We always order samples first. The sample shipping teaches us the full process before the large order.
